The power of Self-discipline in Goal Setting

According to me, self-discipline is something which drives self. A discipline which drives ourselves to achieve the impossible and achieve the unachievable. It drives a person to follow a schedule for working and carrying out other daily chores. It motivates us to wake up in the morning to complete a task. plan our task before going to bed. Focus our mind and energies on the necessities of our life, leaving trivial day to day problems which do not matter in the long run.

Self-discipline is the major driving force in the achievement of goals. Without discipline, a person is paralysed. It gets difficult to start a task or complete a task on time. Work gets procrastinated and the end is never achieved as the person trying to achieve the goal is not serious about his work. We have to carry on and work hard on a daily basis. It never happens that we will work on a single day and achieve our goal while wasting rest of the time doing something which comes on first come first serve basis or things which we never planned but were thrust upon us by the circumstances. To achieve something concrete, it is necessary that we contribute a part of the time or our full time to our goal. Many working professionals leaves their job at the age of 35 or 40 years to become an entrepreneur. it would be very difficult for them to succeed if they lacked self discipline, because they are the boss and no one can command authority on them to do a certain work. Self discipline leads to the success of a person whether working from home or office. It is the force which inculcates a sense of responsibility to work hard for the achievement of a certain goal or completion of a particular task.

Any person who achieved success made it possible through self discipline.  Self discipline is a discipline which we thrust upon ourselves to follow. It is the motivational force which helps us in riding storms or difficult situations to carry on and not stop. We believe that there is a silver lining at the end of the cloud. Self discipline is about managing our own selves and our work so that we can achieve our goals.

Self discipline is the mantra behind every successful person. A strong determination is needed to succeed in any sphere of life be it sports, business or work. Everything requires a solid determination to continue and face the setbacks in life with a smiling face and to move on and on till we reach the pinnacle of success.

Dream Big

We always say dream big as big dreams helps in achieving big goals rather than small dreams. It is easy to dream small and be satisfied with the small result. Many do this most of the time because they find it hard to come out of their comfort zone to achieve something big and meaningful. They feel satisfied and are happy in their comfort zones and find it difficult to adjust to new and improved surroundings. It is easier said than done. A lot of people dream big, but they do not take any measures or steps to achieve their dream. They are sure to fail as inaction spoils the intellect.

For example – If  I want to become an Entrepreneur I need to take necessary steps to learn concepts so that I can be successful in my venture. If  I have no or little business skill I will enrol myself into a good B-School so that I can learn the intricacies of business. Not just sit at home for the time to pass and wait for the market to get right when I can start my business. Some or other things may not work at present, but they will get favourable in the near future when we start off. If we just wait things will never be fine and that best day will never ever come.

Walking along a path which we feel correct and just is a good idea than doing nothing at all and cursing the present situation. It is better to get into action and stop criticizing the present moment and any person. Big dreams need commitment, determination, vision and focus on moving on and not stop till that dream is achieved and set a next one to be achieved. It is a cycle which never stops. It is our commitment to achieving the best and be the best in our field in spite of all setbacks and obstacles.

It is a very popular saying whenever you want to dream, dream big because small dreams lead you nowhere. If you dream for the moon you will catch the stars. Meaning you will achieve something near to your big dreams which would not have been possible if you dreamt small staying in your comfort zone. Dreams are our guiding force for the future and without imagination and dreams we will land nowhere.

A lot of people find it difficult to dream big due to their present circumstances and educational level. But when we move ahead and look at the history of people who made it big we find that there was nothing which held them back except for an extraordinary determination. Nothing is impossible. You dream, you learn the intricacies and then move on. You will understand things when you get interested in it and you will only get interested when you feel you can do it. When you feel it is not in your hands you are allowing opportunities to pass on. Self confidence is very important attribute needed in a person who dreams big. Because it is the confidence in oneself which helps a person to achieve his goals and reach the pinnacle of success.

Role of Motivation in Goal Setting

Motivation is the driving force behind setting goals and achieving them. When a goal is set a person needs the motivation to carry on and achieve the goal. The path may not be easy but when we are motivated there is an extra drive within us to achieve the impossible and dream big. Just setting goals is not enough, a drive from inside is needed to achieve that goal and that drive will come only when we are 100 % committed to our goal. We need to be focused and move along the set path with full vigour and not stop in the face of adversities. Anyone who made big was able to do so because of the faith in himself and his capability. Motivation brings out the best in a person and helps them in dreaming big which was not possible in its absence.

We can get motivated by our elders or anyone whom we consider an ideal person. This helps us in planning and moving ahead. Without motivation, it will be difficult to achieve success.

Motivation is like fuelling ourselves every day with energy so that we can move on an extra mile. If we forget to renew our energy the self-motivation will fall short and with the shortage of energy there will be no enthusiasm and thus no desire to reach a goal. When we are fully motivated we focus on just one point rather than concentrating on 1000 ‘s of point at a single time. We listen to others opinion and lose focus when we are less motivated and start focusing our energy on what others feel is right for us rather than what we think is correct.

Motivation can come from reading motivational books, watching motivational movies, associating with our role model, from God, parents, brothers and sisters. It can be anyone, different people have the different source of motivation and it is never the same for all. The role of motivation is great in goal setting because anyone can set a goal, but not everyone can achieve it. To achieve the specific goal, a certain amount of motivation is very much necessary. Reading motivational quotes every day is a great source of motivation. For example, I have stuck famous quotes near my working table so that I can read them again and again and stay on track.

Do what you feel like doing not something which others want you to do. When there is an intrinsic desire a person is automatically motivated. We get distracted when we do not believe in our work and doubt our capability. Never doubt yourself. Every person is capable of achieving the best in life but yes he should have faith and hold on when others think it is time to quit.
